Plants and People

Today I learned about photosynthesis in more detail. My biochemistry professor used some jargon-based words to explain the process that I'll have to look up in the book--but the most simplest words spoke to me, the most:

Light. Energy. Excitement!

It was all beginning to make sense to me in an analogous way. God has been listening to my oh so sad moments, but this lecture confirmed He listened really hard and is ready to get me up and out of the cocoon I can put myself in at times. After the lecture, I realized plants have so much in common with people and now wonder I gravitate to them so much.

Did you know? Light is captured by the sun in the form of energy and that there are components within plants (called chloroplast--which actually makes the plant green because it's on the spectrum of light that does not absorb light, it is only reflected--like a mirror). Within these green-ness goodness, there are these tiny structures called thylakoids that look like little stacks of green coins. To put it simply--light interacts with this green pigment called chlorophyll to initiate the process of light becoming energy and that energy embodies the plant and it becomes excited--to result in some goodies.

Sugar, oxygen, and energy--That's something we all need.

The simple words helped me understand that when we receive light--whether that's in the form of the literal sun, prayer/talk time with God or even a smile someone sends our way, it gives us energy and that energy in return gives us excitement. Excitement to live the next moment, excitement about an idea, excitement about any and everything.

Allow yourself to receive some light--from someone or something, you are so deserving of that light and watch that excitement flow and don't forget to water yourself to grow!
