Acknowledgement

In this post I want to briefly touch on the importance of acknowledgement. It’s something so simple that often becomes overlooked.

I see friends and family in person or even on social media and they share with everyone or even me specifically what they have going on; whether it’s a project they’re working on, a trip they’re looking forward to, a conversation about their mental state, you name it, but I wondered how many times have I sat down and experienced (even a glimpse) of their individualized experience. I think It’s simple to reward or congratulate good things, as well as offer sympathy to the bad.

But I bring the focus to Empathy though, and how expressing from a place of genuine understanding can be difficult for me because my life is completely different from theirs. Not to compare, but to simply acknowledge. So I asked myself, do I really understand if I’ve never experienced this before? With that being said, I considered a solution that acknowledging that I may not know or may not understand is better to express than continually saying, “I feel you” or “I understand” after they become transparent with me and share their thought processes, or even those guilty “yeah, me too’s”.

People feel highly valued and appreciated when you acknowledge them and/or their efforts.

I know I feel really good about myself about a decision I made or even something I‘m working on when someone openly acknowledges me and/or my efforts. I’d like to offer the same to anyone because honestly, sometimes that acknowledgement is all you needed to finish that project, all you needed to have a little more faith, all you needed to feel human again.

I personally want to acknowledge you for reading this post whoever and wherever you are. You are special and I thank you for supporting me on this journey, as I hope this will help you on yours. You’ll continue to do great things. Keep going. Love always.
